Stewardship
The mission at Hunter Presbyterian Church is to be a joyful community of Christian faith, a growing reflection of God’s love. Your giving to Hunter as a member or friend is a personal expression of faith and support for this mission.
Christian stewardship is the practice of systematic and proportionate giving of time, talents, abilities and material possessions. Christian stewardship is based upon the conviction that these are trusts from God to be used in God’s service for the benefit of all humankind in grateful acknowledgement of Christ’s redeeming love.
We come into this world with God-given gifts and talents and time. Returning a portion of the fruits of these gifts for God’s work helps the Hunter ministry grow, helps the congregation flourish, and helps to spread the resulting care and support throughout the broader community.
In addition to your time and talents, giving to Hunter involves support of the day to day operation of the church and its ministries and mission; the long term security of the church; and the “bricks and mortar” needs for our house of worship.
To be a Christian is to live a life of grateful response to the outpoured love and grace of God.
2009 Per Capita Fund Offering
One of the unique features of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is its “connectionalism.” We are a denomination of over 11,000 individual congregations. We are also a denomination in which those 11,000 congregations support each other and work together to do many things that we could not do individually. As a part of a “connectional” church, we at Hunter Presbyterian Church share certain benefits and costs with our sister Presbyterian churches.
No church in our presbytery could provide the facilities and services of Camp Burnamwood alone, but working together the churches of the Presbytery of Transylvania make this vital youth ministry possible. No church alone could provide a program for training lay pastors to serve in our smaller churches, but together we make it happen.
What 90+ congregations can do together in a presbytery is multiplied even more when 11,000 Presbyterian congregations across the United States come together to support national and international programs through our General Assembly. Together, as a connectional church, we can work with our sister churches to do things for the greater glory of God.
These programs and activities are financed through the Per Capita Fund. Each congregation in the PC (U.S.A.) is assessed a per capita assessment to support the basic and essential operation and administrative costs of the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. Hunter’s assessment for 2009 is $33.31 for each active member, or $6,728.62.
Many congregations ask their members to consider a special donation covering the cost of “per capita” assessments. Again this year, as we have in the past three years, we at Hunter are doing the same. During the month of September “per capita” envelopes will be placed in the pews for your use. Each active member of Hunter (confirmed children are active members; non-confirmed baptized children are not) is being asked to consider donating the $33.31 which Hunter will pay this year for each of its members. Of course, each member is free to contribute more or less of the $33.31 per household member. Some of us may not be able to or wish not to contribute at all; others of us may be able to contribute not only our share but that of others. Knowing the mission spirit of Hunter’s members, we are confident of a strong response to the 2009 Per Capita Fund Offering.
