Worship in Practice

WORSHIP IN PRACTICE:
The Practice of Communion

Dear Families,
During the month of November, Worship in Practice will be learning about communion.
At Hunter Presbyterian Church, all baptized children are welcome at the communion table. When children begin taking communion is up to the family's discretion. Some families enjoy communion together as soon as the child is physically able to do so. Other families prefer to wait until the child shows a certain amount of maturity and understanding.
In Worship in Practice, we will be acting out communion every Sunday in November, as a way of experientially understanding this important sacrament. We believe that children learn best by doing: by feeling, tasting, smelling, speaking, and repeating. Children tend to act and reenact moments of importance through play and imaginative thinking. In Worship in Practice, we will introduce communion as acting out the drama of God's love.
On Sunday, December 5, the Worship in Practice children will serve with the support of our elders. We will then, as a class, take communion together. If you do not wish your children to practice or take communion, please speak with Daisy Rhau so that we can make other arrangements.

In Christ,
The Worship in Practice Team

Children's Rotation Sunday School

We thank our May “Doubting Thomas” and Pentecost teachers: Frankie Daniel, Kriis Zeps, Joyce Abbott, Emily Warren, Tami Daniel, and Emese Gal.

On Sunday, May 23rd, we made clothespin pinwheels to remind us of the great rushing wind and of the

disciples being filled with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

Take a minute to ask the kids about this!

We will finish out the Sunday school year with a rotation on the “Greatest Commandment” with cooking, puppet, storytelling, and movie lessons. Our last Sunday, June 27th, we will have a special class to see how much we have

learned from this year! We invite children who are in 1st through 5th grade to come join the fun on the third floor Rotation Sunday School at 9:30am!!

Rotation Sunday school will be taking a break during the month of July and the 1st two Sunday’s of August. We look

forward to seeing everyone on Sunday, August 15th!

Please see Donna Goodrich or Paula Hudson if you are interested in teaching as part of our Rotation Sunday school when we resume this fall.

Alternatives Adults Sunday School Class Schedule

We are pleased to announce that Jerry Sumney, Professor of Biblical Studies at Lexington Theological Seminary, will be leading us for six weeks beginning this Sunday, September 13 through October 18 to learn more about Paul's life and ministry.
Following is a description of the class:
Paul: The Apostle of Controversy
This 6 week study will begin with a review of Paul's life and ministry. We will then turn to some of the issues that made him controversial then and now. We will see how problems and questions in his churches shaped the advice he gave them and we will think about what we should do with this advice that is now a part of our Bible. Among the topics we will discuss are:
Women in Paul’s churches and ministry, Paul on grace and works, Paul and Judaism, and Paul and the afterlife (and end times). We will think about how what he says about these topics can be important for the church today.

We hope all adults will join us for what sounds like a very interesting series, even if you aren't a Sunday School "regular"! We meet in the Lounge which is on the first floor next to the water fountain. Please contact Cindy Mitchell if you have any questions.
