ANPP Training

As of January 1st, the Abuse and Neglect Prevention Policy (ANPP) that the Christian  Education committee began implementing in December, will become fully effective.
The ANPP is a policy that seeks to ensure the safety of all those involved in the ministry of the church. We also seek to model ourselves on the forefront as a socially aware and just church, by voluntarily implementing a policy that the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. is currently moving to require for all its churches.
As part of this policy, all volunteers who work with children and youth will be required to attend a brief training and undergo a  background check. This includes volunteers who help with nursery, Sunday School, Worship & Wonder, Worship in Practice, Youth Group, and Vacation Bible School.
Results from background checks will be reviewed by the pastor and an unaffiliated, ordained member of the Transylvania Presbytery. All results will then be sealed and stored in a locked file.
Training sessions will be held on the following dates:
—Sunday, January 23 at 10:00 am in the Library
—Sunday, January 30 at 10:15 am in the Library
Please note the times have changed slightly from those that were previously posted. The training sessions should last 30-40 minutes.
Please RSVP to Ashley Burdick by email (ashley.burdick@hunterpresbyterian.org) or call the office (277-5126). The trainings are important. Without your support, we cannot hope to ensure the well-being of all children and youth at Hunter Presbyterian Church.

Adult Sunday School Options

"What has happened to the Presbyterian Church since 1950?" will be the topic for the Theology Seminar beginning on September 26, 2010. Why has overall membership declined? Is it our liberalism and our stance on women, racial integration, and gay rights? Is it our theology? This seminar will argue that the primary reasons have been sociological, not theological or social. Society has changed drastically and the churches have not kept up. We will begin by looking at the mainline churches as wholes and then focus on the Presbyterians, especially on Transylvania Presbytery and on Hunter Church itself, which, since 1970, has declined from a membership of more than 500 persons. Remember our starting date is September 26. All are welcome to join this adult Sunday school class!

The Alternatives Class

In the month of September, we will bediscussing the topic, "Can Science & Religion Meet?" This discussion will be led by Cara Richards. Come by the Lounge on Sundays at 9:30 and join us!
